At Prolimit, we are driven by the desire to create and build innovative watersports products. From the start, we recognized the unique needs of kiteboarders, which led us to introduce the first kite-specific harness. Our industry-first innovations - like neoprene soft edges, innerbelt constructions, dual foam systems, the first shell-based harnesses, and the slide-in barpad - have since become industry standards.
But our commitment doesn’t end there; our dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance, comfort, and safety to deliver the best experience for every rider continues.
Key Industry First Innovations
Prolimit has always been an innovator in the harness category, bringing numerous groundbreaking innovations to the sport.
We introduced…
The first kite-specific harness.
The first neoprene softedge harness, comfortable was key.
The first innerbelt system, absorbing shock loads on your kidneys and back. Creating a nice snug fit.
The first Pin Release closure system with added safety.
Dual foam system in harnesses. Soft on your body, stiffer on the outside to transfer and distribute the load force evenly.
The first slide-in barpad.
The first shell-based harnesses.
Design Principles That Set Us Apart
Prolimit harnesses stand out due to the product-driven design approach, focusing on technical precision before aesthetics. Unlike many in the industry who prioritize visual appeal first, we start by engineering each harness for optimal performance. Every size is carefully patterned to ensure the perfect balance of webbing placement, height of the neoprene softedges, harness stiffness, and the ideal innerplate platform. This process guarantees that a harness not only looks good, but delivers the best support, fit and durability.
Engineered for Support: The Mark Loadplates Advantage
At the core of every Prolimit harness is our shell-based construction. Our harnesses are designed with a solid internal 3D shaping structure and incorporate advanced composite technologies, including outer shells, carbon outer shells, and thermoformed 3D foams.
What truly sets Prolimit apart is the internal design. Our Mark Loadplates distribute pressure evenly, ensuring the perfect balance of support and flexibility. While other harnesses may look similar on the outside, it’s this internal structure that guarantees a superior fit, lasting comfort, and optimal performance on the water.
Depending on your needs, you can choose from:
Mark I Internal Loadplate: Offers a high-back support design with stiff flex profile. It features side pillows with four flex zones for maximum stability.
Mark II Internal Loadplate: Offers medium back support with a medium flex profile. Features side pillows and back support with six flex-zones.
Mark III Internal Loadplate: Offers medium-height back support with a flexible profile. Features side pillows and back support with two max flex zones for vertical flexibility.
Mark IV Internal Loadplate: Offers high to medium-height back support with a medium-stiff profile. Features side pillows and back support with two max flex zones for edge flex and two horizontal flex zones.
We'll now move from the internal structure to the outer shells. Our profile inner shells have been brought to the outside, maintaining the same core principles—3D profiling and load plates—while directly connecting the harness webbings for optimal support and performance.

Mark V Carbon Hardshell: High to medium-height back support and a deep back support profile.
Mark VI Pure Outer Shell: Made from the unique, indestructible PURE™ material, which is lighter than water, 100% recyclable, and free of toxic materials. It offers a perfect balance of elasticity and stiffness, with lots of torsion flex. Features medium flex height back support with stiff/medium flex back support and a deep-back support profile.
Mark VII Pure Outer Shell: Made from PURE™ material. Features stiff flex height back support with stiff/medium flex back support and a deep-back support profile.
Mark VIII Outer Shell: Made from stiff composite materials, this harness offers stiff height back support, evenly distributed back support. The medium-low deep back support ensures optimal fit and support.
The result? A harness that molds to your body while maximizing control and reducing strain.

PURE™ Technology: Top-Of-The-Range
A standout feature of Prolimit harnesses is our use of PURE™ composite. PURE™ is top-of-the-range, 100% polypropylene, self-reinforced composite material. It is non-resin based and is a unique, yet durable, low weight and touch thermoplastic composite. PURE™ is thermos-formable under heat in press form processes. Furthermore, it does not splinter and has unique properties making it an excellent material for the Vapor, Addict and Argon harnesses.
PURE™ is patented and a trademark-protected material and its durability and elasticity are perfectly suited for harnesses. PURE™ is also very strong at even low temperatures – for snow kiting for example – and is a material with ballistic properties. The material can also be found in other high wear and impact products, such as ice skates, high end travel luggage and sail reinforcements.

Seamless Integration with Other Gear
Prolimit harnesses are designed to seamlessly integrate with other gear like wetsuits and impact vests. The construction ensures a comfortable fit, even with added layers of a wetsuit, and the spreader bar system is adaptable to different riding conditions and styles.
For example, harnesses can wear down leg and waist areas over time, which is why Prolimit has banned the use of Skin neoprene in wetsuits for years. Harnesses can damage this material, so we focus on durability by avoiding seams in friction areas. While some may argue that avoiding Skin neoprene increases windchill, this is exactly why Prolimit wetsuits are designed with Thermal Rebound, Zodiac 2.0, or Velvet linings, keeping you warmer than any other wetsuit!
