Ben's journey to professional kitesurfer might seem unconventional, but for him, it’s exactly the life he wants. As a van-living athlete, Ben has made the choice to live outside of traditional structures. “Whenever I think about moving back into a traditional house,” Ben shares, “I get this overwhelming feeling of claustrophobia.” For Ben, being surrounded by the elements and the freedom to chase the wind is what brings him true peace and joy.

For instance, he’s mindful of his resource consumption, using only 100 liters of water a week in his van (a huge reduction compared to the average person). He powers his van with solar panels and uses gas for heating.
