When Dutch rider Dominique Foss first discovered kitesurfing, it felt like everything clicked. “From the moment I first went out, I was hooked,” she says. “That feeling of flying, of being one with the wind, is pure magic.”

But for Dominique, that freedom came with a challenge she never expected. “Every wetsuit I tried gave me terrible allergic reactions. Itchy rashes all over my body that kept me awake for days,” she recalls. “I kept thinking maybe I just had to toughen up, but after visiting a doctor, I found out I had a neoprene and latex allergy that was getting worse each session. It was heartbreaking. I couldn’t imagine giving up the sport I loved.”

A New Kind of Freedom

Just when she thought she might have to walk away from the water, Dominique discovered Prolimit’s neoprene-free wetsuits. “I reached out to the team and shared my story, and they were incredibly supportive,” she says. “They let me try the new neoprene-free collection, and to my relief it worked. No more itching or sleepless nights. I could just focus on the session again and enjoy being on the water. I felt free… the way you’re meant to feel out there.”

As someone who used to work as a specialized nurse and led her hospital’s Green Team in Amsterdam, sustainability was already part of Dominique’s DNA. “These wetsuits aren’t just allergy-friendly,” she explains. “They’re also a sustainable choice, which means a lot to me. I love the ocean deeply and want to help protect it in every way I can.”

Sustainability Without Compromise

For over two decades, Prolimit has been on a mission to create high-performance gear that respects both the rider and the planet. The brand’s ongoing “We Care” initiative focuses on reducing the environmental footprint of production; from recycled linings and solvent-free glues to bio-based foams and plastic-free packaging. Every design choice is driven by a simple goal: to protect the playgrounds we all depend on.

At the heart of this mission lies Natureprene™, a plant-based alternative to traditional neoprene. Instead of using petroleum or limestone, Natureprene is derived from natural rubber harvested from FSC-certified trees, combined with non-toxic additives and recycled interior fabrics. The result is a material that delivers the same warmth, flexibility and durability as neoprene – without the chemical irritants that commonly trigger allergic reactions. For riders like Dominique, that means more comfort, fewer sensitivities and a chance to enjoy long sessions again, all while supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for water sports.

Her go-to wetsuit is the Flare Steamer Free X 5/4, a suit that she says has changed the way she rides. “It’s warm enough for all the different seasons in the Netherlands and the cold waters of Cape Town. It’s incredibly stretchy and surprisingly easy to put on. I’ve used it for almost a year now, and it still fits perfectly and looks brand new. That says a lot about the quality.”

From Noordwijk aan Zee, where it all began, to Bonaire’s turquoise lagoons and Cape Town’s powerful winds, Dominique is back to chasing the moments that make her feel alive – without limits, without compromise and without allergic reactions holding her back.
